Recruiter Spotlight: meet the bubbly Charlotte Scott-Hill

What’s one thing in the hiring process you would never leave to automation?
Truly getting to know a candidate’s story. I believe it’s in those human moments - understanding someone’s motivations, personality, and potential - that the best hiring decisions are made. That level of connection and intuition simply can’t be replicated by technology.
How do you bring the Flightie culture or spirit into your conversations with candidates?
I bring the Flightie spirit into every conversation by keeping things upbeat, energetic, and down to earth. I’m not afraid to make people laugh and help them feel completely at ease. I genuinely love the industry, and that passion comes through in how I connect with candidates, share stories, and bring a sense of excitement to what’s possible for them. It’s about creating a warm, memorable experience that reflects the culture while still really listening and championing their journey. And of course, I always have to ask if they have any exciting travel plans coming up! (It’s the best icebreaker, one of my favourite topics, and very on brand!).
When in the hiring process does the human element matter most to you, and why?
At two key points in the hiring process - right at the beginning and at the moment of offer. Early on, it’s about building a genuine connection, understanding a candidate’s story, representing FCTG in such a positive light, and creating a space where they feel comfortable being themselves. Then, when it comes time to offer the role, nothing beats picking up the phone and celebrating that moment with them (sorry to my colleagues, who often have to hear me shouting and cheering!) Sharing in their excitement, hearing their reaction in real time, and making it feel truly special. Those are the moments that turn a process into a memorable, human experience.

What song best describes you when you’re in full recruiter mode?
It HAS to be ACDC’s Thunderstruck! Or Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now… depends on the day!
Beach escape or city adventure?
Beach escape, always! I’m completely beach obsessed. Growing up in New Zealand, I was always by the water, so it’s a big part of who I am, and something I crave so badly living in London. There’s just nothing like the ocean, sunshine, swaying palms, and that relaxed energy that makes me feel so content and free… I’m my happiest self by the water!
What destination best matches your personality outside of work?
I’d say Marrakesh! Colourful, vibrant, full of energy, and organised chaos haha! It’s a place that’s rich in atmosphere, a little bit bold, and very social, which really reflects how I am both inside and outside of work. I love being around people, bringing warmth and good energy, and embracing or creating environments that feel lively, expressive, and full of personality.
What is your recruiter fuel of choice?
I think it goes without saying that coffee would be the top pick here! But also healthy, whole foods, good sleep, and long runs that help to re-energise me and burn off any stress after a full-on, jam-packed day of recruiting!
