Our Story

Our company starts with one double decker bus in 1973. Over four decades, Flight Centre Travel Group grows to become a $19 billion business consisting of more than 40 brands. Today, we are one of the world's largest travel groups with company-owned operations in 16 countries and a corporate travel management network that spans more than 90 countries.

2010 – 2014

From 2010 to 2014, our business and our share price bounce back from the crash in 2009. We leverage the strengths of our scale and our brand and geographic diversity. In 2011, all ten countries are profitable for the first time. In 2013, we change our company's name to Flight Centre Travel Group. We expand our operations to Ireland. We continue to launch and acquire new brands.

We launch Flight Centre Business School to deliver management and business courses for our people and our corporate clients Australia wide.

We start Travel Club as a dedicated travel club for our corporate customers. The business offers highly specialised and personal leisure travel services to companies that are partnered with Corporate Traveller and FCM.

We acquire gapyear.com, a social network and travel advice website for backpackers and volunteers. This purchase enables Flight Centre Travel Group in the UK to access the world's largest dedicated backpackers' network and to drive enquiry from the site to our retail businesses.

We change the name of our company – Flight Centre Limited becomes Flight Centre Travel Group. The change of name reflects our company's evolution from its traditional roots as a travel agent to a world-class retailer of leisure and travel products.

We launch Flight Centre Travel Academy in Australia to provide affordable and practical tourism courses for individuals who are interested in starting a career in the tourism industry.

We acquire Topdeck Travel – the company that Skroo and Bill James started in 1974. We enter a joint venture partnership with Buffalo Tours, specialising in tailor-made private tours to discover Asia. This strengthens our position as a significant player in the tour operating sector.

We start our operations to Ireland when we acquire the Dublin-based Travelplan Corporate, and rebrand this as FCM.

We party in our onesies at Monster Macau Global Gathering.
