Flight Centre unites
We continue to open shops selling discount airfares in Australia. There is no consistency in shop names or branding.
The Bangkok Managers' Conference in 1987 is a turning point. After much discussion, we decide to adopt 'Flight Centre' as our common name, one brand and one best way for business systems. This is the birth of our red and white shop fit-outs, the Concorde logo, the Captain and our 'Lowest Airfares Guaranteed' slogan.
We start operations in New Zealand and start our own Ticket Centre. United as 'airfare specialists', our success takes off.
In the mid-1980s Flight Centre in Australia runs as three separate 'fiefdoms' by Skroo Turner (Queensland), Bill James (New South Wales) and Geoff Harris (Victoria).
We hold our first ball in 1987 at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast. Ours is a culture of celebrating success. We work hard and we party harder.
While we have been selling discount flights in Australia since 1982, we unite under the brand of 'Flight Centre' after the Bangkok Managers' Conference in 1987.
We publish this profile about Flight Centre as a tool to help us secure shop leases in shopping centres.
