Internal Audit Leader - Brisbane
About the Opportunity
The Australian Internal Audit team is recently established and acts as the third line of defence for Flight Centre Travel Group’s (FCTG) Australian Operations, complementing the established risk management framework.
The Australian Internal Audit Leader will be an expert in assurance and have demonstrated experience developing and deploying effective audit strategies across complex businesses. They will drive the strategic direction of the audit team and be responsible for development and execution of the annual audit plan. Reporting to the GM Finance, the Australian Internal Audit Leader will lead and develop audit team members. The Australian Internal Audit team will be a driving force in ensuring the protection of FCTG’s assets and contributing to the ongoing success of the company.
To be successful, the Australian Internal Audit Leader be self driven and will have the ability to influence stakeholders in balancing the priorities of strong internal controls against operational efficiency.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead Australian Internal Audit’s strategy and planning process to develop the annual audit plan and ensure the plan is aligned with the risk profile of the organisation
- Meet regularly with the Australian CFO, Enterprise Risk Leader and Australian Risk Leader to ensure the audit plan reflects emerging risks and changing priorities
- Oversee the execution of audits ensuring a high level of service quality and stakeholder satisfaction
- Perform audit work, including planning, workpapers and reporting. This will involve verifying the accuracy of financial records as they pertain to assets, liabilities, receipts, expenditures, and related transactions
- Actively engage with senior management and/or committees to ensure that Internal Audit is informed of key operational developments that could impact audit priorities or planning
- Issue all Internal Audit reports ensuring that reports are clear, concise, identify root causes and provide relevant recommendations
- Manage tracking, follow-up, and resolution of open audit issues leveraging the Australian CFO, if necessary
- Maintain and champion the use of the audit technology and analytics platform (Highbond)
- Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies
- Assist Global Financial Reporting (GFR) in coordinating the activities of external auditors
- Serve as a contact on third party or regulatory reviews as required
- Attract, hire, and retain a team of high-performing auditors who possess strong knowledge, experience and integrity. Train new team members as needed
- Assist in specific projects as and when required
Required Skills/Experience
- Tertiary qualification in accounting, business or commerce
- IIAA/CPA/CA qualification
- At least 5 years’ experience in an Internal or External Audit role
- Commercial acumen and strong technical knowledge
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to develop relationships at all levels
- Proven track record of implementing effective assurance practices
- Strong analytical skills with initiative to resolve issues or pursue business opportunities as they are identified
- Track record of leading and developing high performing teams
- High degree of flexibility and ability to deal with change, growth and a pressured environment
- Ability to travel at short notice as required
- Experience in AML compliance audits desirable
